An O-ring, or torus, is a doughnut-shaped object or mechanical gasket generally made from an elastomer. O-rings can also be made from PTFE, other plastic materials, metals, and be made hollow or solid. O-rings often have a round cross-section.
O-rings commonly provide a pressure and fluid seal between cylindrically shaped, overlapping mating surfaces and are commonly used for engines, faucets, flanges, valves, and various cylinders.
Silicone O-rings are excellent sealing materials for static environments with high temperatures. Suitable applications include gas compressors, heat exchangers, plumbing, doors and windows, as well as home and electrical appliances. In general, silicone o-rings possess excellent flexibility and fatigue resistance, as well as excellent resistance to both ozone and UV radiation, and neutral physiological and thermal properties.
Silicone is also very well suited to FDA and military specifications.
